stamps_26Proudly sponsored by The Mosaic Company, guests of the RCMP Heritage Centre can learn about the history of the Force on a self-guided audio tour from the perspective of Canada’s most famous Mountie, Sam Steele.

Sam Steele was the third member to join the North West Mounted Police (NWMP) in 1873. During Steele’s illustrious career he was in the first troop to march west, an intricate part of establishing the NWMP’s headquarters in Regina, as well as a foothold on the prairies. Sam Steele was also in charge of maintaining law and order during the Yukon Gold Rush. He left the Force in the early 1900’s to fight in the Boer War in South Africa.

This self-guided audio tour takes guests through the permanent exhibit galleries, which chronicle the evolution of the NWMP to the modern day RCMP recognized worldwide.

This audio tour starts in the Regimental Lobby and takes guests through the following galleries:
– Creating a Mounted Police Force
– March of the Mounties Exhibit
– Maintaining Law and Order in the West
– Protecting the North
– Serving all of Canada

These handheld, self-guided audio tours are included with admission to the RCMP Heritage Centre and offered in both English and French. Headset and handheld device are provided at the Front Desk. Earbuds are also available for purchase at the Central Trading Post Gift Shop, located in the RCMP Heritage Centre. You can also download the self-guided audio tour app for your own device from both iTunes and the Google App Store for Android.

Audio tours are offered all year during the regular operating hours of the RCMP Heritage Centre and are included with admission.
