As Halloween approaches, all manner of things creepy and crawly, spooky and scary
start to appear and the RCMP Heritage Centre is not immune. Starting October 15, 2019
and running to Halloween, the Centre’s Black Museum feature exhibit will once again
appear.
Artifacts from some of Canada’s famous criminal cases will be on display, from the Mad
Trapper to the Benito Bandits and “Bloody Jack” Krafchenko to name but a few. But do
hurry. After Halloween, it will all disappear!
The RCMP Heritage Centre’s Black Museum feature exhibit is based on the original Black
Museum or Crime Museum at New Scotland Yard, headquarters of the Metropolitan
Police in London, England. Sometime in 1874, the Metropolitan Police began collecting
criminal memorabilia, mainly for police training and study purposes. The museum
continues to this day, although it is not open to the public.
The RCMP Heritage Centre’s Black Museum feature exhibit is open to the public from
October 15 to 31, 2019 during regular operating hours, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven day a
week. Regular admission charges apply.
Viewer discretion is advised. Some of the material in the exhibit may be upsetting,
particularly for small children.
