Position Details: Temporary, part-time – October 2024-February 2025 

Compensation: $19/hour 

Hours of Work: Maximum 20 hours/week

The RCMP Heritage Centre is a non-profit museum and cultural centre (not owned or operated by the RCMP). We share the history of the RCMP and Canada through our museum gallery, and explore related topics through programming and events. We provide an outstanding guest experience to visitors from around the world through our galleries, tours, classroom and family-friendly activities and programs, and public events.

Position Overview 

Projected start date – November 4, 2024. There will be a break in December to accommodate time off for holidays.  

The RCMP Heritage Centre is seeking an energetic, positive and proactive individual for the position of Community Program Project Coordinator. The Community Program Project Coordinator will support a partnership project between the RCMP Heritage Centre and two community partners. The outcomes of this project will be a week of public and classroom anti-racism programming during Black History Month. Through theatre performance, and interactive learning, the program will help classroom participants understand concepts like the different types of racism, bias, discrimination, and allyship. The program will enhance the participants’ ability to identify and address discrimination in their day to day lives. 

In this role, you will help coordinate this project, bring the partners together, and learn to capture, implement, and report on key project millstones. You will learn about working in the cultural/heritage sector, working in non-profits, project management and administration of a project from beginning to successful completion, creating and executing partnerships, working with internal and external clients, and making community connections. You will bring creativity and problem solving to the project and participate in the idea-generation and idea development through the development of the program. During the program, you will assist with the event set-up and supporting the Centre’s education programming team.  

This position is partially funded by the Government of Canada’s Young Canada Works program. You are not required to have your own device – a laptop will be supplied to you for the duration of your internship.  

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Reporting to the Manager of Admin and Operations, you will be the project coordinator for our Black History Month classroom program;  
  • We’re looking for a positive and collaborative team-player who is passionate about the project and delivering a well-planned program;  
  • You will learn about working in a non-profit and in the cultural sector and will gain experience in various portfolios at the Heritage Centre;  
  • You will learn about project coordination and event planning;  
  • You will learn about specialized tools like Monday.com and Lightspeed point of sale system;  
  • As the project coordinator you will work on a schedule of meetings and important milestones, learn how to use a Gantt chart, learn about bringing together partner teams, coordinate with partners and internal teams to schedule meetings, participate in brainstorms and meetings, take meeting notes, do research and provide it to the project team, and provide updates to management;  
  • You will use problem solving and critical thinking skills to come up with and pose solutions and ideas;  
  • Collaborate with different internal teams like our Visitor Services team, marketing and communications, programming, and admin for their support in the project;  
  • You will play an important role in assisting the programming team to execute the week of classroom programming, including event set up and tear down;  
  • You will be responsible for creating a project wrap up report that details the steps of the project, an assessment of what went well, and areas for growth for next year;  
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Skills/Qualifications: 

  • Background or study area in Marketing, Communications, Project Coordination/Management, Event Planning, Education, Administration, Hospitality, or Museum Studies or related fields is considered an asset; 
  • French or other second language is considered a strong asset; 
  • Must have excellent communication and teamwork skills; 
  • Must be well-organized and able to work independently; 
  • Must be outgoing, personable, and be able to work well in a team environment; 
  • Computer skills are required: including proven familiarity with database, Excel spreadsheets and other Microsoft Office applications; 
  • Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills, including the ability to handle multiple, concurrent priorities; 
  • Clear and articulate written and verbal communication skills; 
  • High degree of professionalism and integrity with internal and external clients; 
  • An enthusiastic go-getter who is as positive about doing as they are about learning and growing with the organization.

  • Must be between 16 and 30 years of age, inclusively, at the start of employment
