Book – Policing in Wartime: One Mountie’s Story

While Canadian service personnel made heroic sacrifices battling the Nazis, other Canadians on the home front were sabotaging the war effort.  Bill Kelly, as part of the RCMP Black Market Squad in Toronto, investigated and prosecuted black market activity and security risks in southern Ontario during World War II.  Bill Kelly, Former Deputy Commissioner and Director of Security and Intelligence of the RCMP, and co-author of Nora Kelly’s account of this time period deals with blackmail, fraud, spies, sabotage, illegal gold exports, foreign exchange, gasoline and other rationing abuses.  These offences and subsequent RCMP investigations were repeated throughout Canada during the war.
