The RCMP Heritage Centre is located on the doorstep of RCMP Academy, Depot Division (“Depot”). All Mounties have trained here since 1885. The sounds of boots and cannons on the Parade Square have filled the air at Depot Division since its establishment as the training centre for the national police force.

While visiting the RCMP Heritage Centre, visitors are given exclusive on-site access to regular, live events at Depot Division” featuring cadets on the parade square, including the iconic Sunset Ceremony. The Sunset Ceremony kicks off every summer on Canada Day and continues weekly on Tuesday evenings until mid-August. A bilingual Canadian Signature Experience, the event is free and open to the general public.

This colourful hour-long event features RCMP cadets in their ceremonial dress uniform, the iconic red serge. The Sunset Ceremony is based on an old British military tradition that signals the end of the day and that all are safe and sound.

The Sunset Ceremony includes the Cadet marching band, a cannon drill, the March Past of RCMP Cadets in the famous scarlet tunic, dismounted cavalry drills, and a lone trumpeter playing the retreat as the Canadian flag is lowered. The Sunset Ceremony is a feast for all the senses. Following the ceremony, guests are welcome to meet RCMP cadets and Safety Bear.
