Your class will learn about the extensive police dog services training program, the close bond between handler and dog, and the crucial role they play in detecting, tracking, and criminal apprehension. The RCMP has the largest Police Dog Service operation, with over 160 PDS teams across Canada. They began their specialized breeding program in 1999, choosing German Shepherds due to their versatility, strength, and courage.
Sgt. David McClarty is an RCMP police dog handler of an eight-year-old German Shepherd named Hawk. Sgt. McClarty is based in Regina, Saskatchewan, and he and Hawk provide support for general duty and explosive detection.
